Alexandria was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and  named after John Alexander, the Scotsman who owned the land that became Alexandria. Alexandria celebrates its heritage annually with the iconic Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade. This year the 52nd annual parade takes place on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 11am – 1pm. Dozens of Scottish clans dressed in colorful tartans parade through the streets of Old Town joined by pipe and drum bands from around the region, as well as terriers, and you’ll even see The Goodhart Group marching in the parade– be sure to stop by and say hello! Join us for an evening featuring Scotch tasting. The event will include a VIP Patron hour from 6:30 – 8 pm with general admission beginning at 8 pm. Proceeds from this event benefit Campagna Center core programs that help children and families from birth to career by providing preschool programs, tutoring, mentoring, college preparation support, and English language learning for adults. General Admission tickets will be made available in early November. Be sure to get your tickets early for this!

The parade benefits the needs of low-income mothers and children in the City of Alexandria. For more than 50 years, the Campagna Center has hosted this event. And now, for the second year, the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade will be produced by Visit Alexandria in partnership with Campagna Center and the City of Alexandria. We too are proud sponsors of the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend, we’ll see you along the route!

Old Town Alexandria Historic Waterfront

Old Town Alexandria’s historic waterfront will shine with dozens of brightly lit boats as they cruise along the Potomac River shoreline. Enjoy dockside festivities in Waterfront Park including a pop-up beer garden from Port City Brewing Company, food, activities and more.
