Northern Virginia Wineries:
Our Team’s Favorites
Summer is the perfect time to be outside and enjoy some of Virginia’s best scenery and wine with family and friends. Northern Virginia wineries offer stunning views, fabulous wine, and even live music and animals! We’ve picked our favorite northern Virginia wineries – be sure check them out this summer.
Barrel Oak Winery
3623 Grove Lane, Delaplane
Bring the whole family out to the Barrel Oak Winery (BOW), even your dog! Voted Virginia’s best winery by Northern Virginia magazine every year since 2012, it is well worth the trip. Owners Sharon and Brian Roeder have created a happy, family-friendly, relaxed atmosphere with live music, picnic tables, and pizza made from a wood-fire oven. Try its 2015 Barrel Chardonnay, made onsite and aged in new French oak barrels. The BOW rents out different parts of the winery if you want to host a company party, family reunion, or any other special event.
Greenhill Winery
23595 Winery Lane, Middleburg
Allison and Doug got engaged at this local winery, so it holds a special place in her heart! Michelle Obama also loves Greenhill Winery – she ordered cases of its award-winning wine to serve at the White House. Join Greenhill’s Wine Club for savings, complimentary tastings in different locations of their vineyard, and more. Grown on their estate, the Riesling (2015) is an impressive wine with a hint of lime. With live music on the patio and breathtaking views, the Greenhill Winery is the perfect setting for a special occasion.
The Winery at Bull Run
15950 Lee Highway, Centreville
This relatively new Fairfax County winery is right next to Manassas National Battlefield Park and an equestrian farm, giving it a historical backdrop. Make sure you try one of its fruit wines (strawberry, peach or raspberry). Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, food trucks (offering Mexican and French fare, barbeque, pizza, etc), visit the winery. The Winery at Bull Run has already received a lot of recognition for its award-winning wine.
Potomac Point Winery & Vineyard
275 Decatur Road, Stafford
With a delicious Sunday brunch menu, the Potomac Point Winery & Vineyard is perfect for your family to spend the day together. Its most popular white wine is its La Belle Vie (2015) or try its signature red, Richland Reserve Heritage, aged 16 months. There are multiple places on the beautiful vineyard that are perfect for having a wedding. With breathtaking views and many different places to tour, Potomac Point Winery & Vineyard is well worth a trip.
Cana Vineyard
38600 John Mosby Highway, Middleburg
Red, white, and fruit wines are all made and available at the Cana Vineyard in Middleburg. Its Vidal Blanc (2015), with a peach, pear, and apple aroma, has won multiple awards. With live music every weekend, this vineyard has a lively atmosphere. Throughout the summer, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART) comes to the vineyard with dogs available for adoption on the spot. Make sure to check their website to see when the dogs will be available!
Bluemont Vineyard
18755 Foggy Bottom Road, Bluemont
The Bluemont Vineyard offers an amazing view of their vineyards and the surrounding area. Be sure to sample their Farm Table White Wine, a combination of Vidal Blanc, Rkatsiteli, Chardonnay and Viognier.
