A volunteer named Marjorie Moore explained it best when she said, “Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.”
So what does that mean to us? Simple: that the easiest way we can make a difference in our community is by giving back to it. Alexandria and the surrounding area has supported our family for over 30 years, so we’re happy to support it right back.
We work with charities and organizations that we truly believe in, so that we can help make a genuine impact in our community.
Here are some of the charities we support in the local community, and what they’re doing to stand out:
The Campagna Center

This local center offers programs to children and families to help educate and support them at any age. The Campagna Center provides resources such as English classes, recreational activities, and after-school care for those in need from infancy to adulthood. Sue is a member of the board and on the development committee at The Campagna Center, as well as an active member of the Supporting Friends of The Campagna Center. Allison is a member of the Junior Friends Board as the Public Relations Chair for The Campagna Center.
St. Coletta of Greater Washington

Sue Goodhart is the President of the Board of Directors at St. Coletta of Greater Washington, an organization that provides support and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Fund for Alexandria’s Child

Allison is the Co-Chair for The Fund for Alexandria’s Child, an organization that supports foster children and at-risk children of abuse and neglect by offering them activities, outings, and athletic opportunities. They also provide support and promote awareness throughout the community.
Together We Bake

This program offers a second chance to women through empowerment and job training. They gain the real-world experience, education, and self-confidence they deserve in a safe and supportive environment. Our team receives deliveries from Together We Bake every month; we always look forward to their delicious treats, and are happy to support such a wonderful program.
Senior Services of Alexandria

Sue and Allison received the Generation to Generation award from the Senior Services of Alexandria, which is a non-profit organization that offers educational programs, Meals on Wheels, and support for seniors in the area.
Alexandria Scholarship Fund

This fund has offered scholarships and financial aid to students from Alexandria City Public Schools since 1986, providing local graduates the means to continue a rewarding post-secondary education.
Center for Alexandria’s Children

This center serves as a safe place for children and families facing abuse and neglect to get specialized help and guidance. They also run education and outreach programs, as well as provide prevention resources.
Alexandria Symphony Orchestra

The ASO not only puts on affordable, high-quality performances, but also supports music education and programs throughout our community.
Alexandria Police Fund

The APF was originally founded to help raise money for retired K-9 police dogs’ medical insurance. It has since grown a dedication to improving and providing support for our entire local police force through grants, research, and scholarships.
