Lena’s was created to provide a gathering place where families and friends can escape their hectic daily routines, relax, and commune in an environment reminiscent of the family table. From soups, salads, small bites, pastas, and entrees, you can’t go wrong at Lena’s. But of course, you’ll have to try the pizza cooked in a 900 degree wood-fired oven. Veggie lovers will rejoice in the choice of either the Seasonal Roasted Vegetable pizza or the Mushroom pizza.
Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana (Sue’s favorite)
Alexandria Commons Shopping Center – 3231 Duke Street
Frank Pepe’s is your traditional old school pizzeria. They offer salads and pizzas cooked via coal-fire. The coal-fired heat source produces a crispy yet chewy crust. This is what gives a Frank Pepe’s pizza that signature crispy, slightly charred crust. Specialty pies include the Chicken Diavolo, White Clam Pizza, Original Tomato Pie, and much more. Fan favorite pies include Mozzarella and Pepperoni, Shrimp (White Pizza), Mozzarella and Sausage to name a few.
Our pizza recommendations: Try the Amanti Della Carne with crushed Italian tomatoes, mozzarella, meatball, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and grated pecorino romano if you are a meat lover, and the Veggie Special with crushed Italian tomatoes, mozzarella, spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, onion, grated pecorino romano and olive oil if you like veggie pizzas.
Our team’s review: Delicious traditional Italian style pizza! Tons of options! Love the thin crust. Unfortunately no gluten-free pizza!

If you like a little sweet and spicy combo try the American Honey with spicy tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, pepperoni, arugula, goat cheese, hot honey, and red pepper flakes. For a white pizza try The Goat with parm-romano sauce, special T sauce, fresh mozzarella, goat cheese, and fig balsamic. Or make your own.
Our team’s review: The oval shape of the pizza creates a larger crust with less room for toppings, but the flavors are unique and the make-your-own options are plentiful. Also we love that there are gluten and dairy free options!
