Foggy Bottom History
Foggy Bottom was the site of one of the earliest settlements and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the District of Columbia. Foggy Bottom was home to a number of breweries and other industrial plants in the late 1800s. It is said that the community received its name from either the “fog” that these factories generated or the morning mist from the Potomac River.
