March Tip of the Month – Cleaning Your Windows & Screens

March 11, 2021 | Love Where You Live | By: The Goodhart Group

The weather is slowly starting to warm up, which means spring cleaning is almost upon us! For those who took screens out for the winter, it’s time to pull them back out of storage.

FIRST, CLEAN YOUR SCREENS

Cleaning your screens can be a quick and easy weekend project, especially if the weather is nice! Some things that you’ll need: towels, microfiber cloth or sponge, vacuum, soap and water.

First, remove the screens. If you are doing this all at once, we suggest marking the screen and the window for easy re-installation. Next, lay a screen down and vacuum with a hand-held hose to help remove any dirt, debris or excess pollen. Repeat on each side.

Next, give each one a good scrub and wash, then rinse and let dry. You can either air dry or use a shop vac. After reinstalling, give your storm windows a good rinse before putting them back in storage.

THEN, CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS

On to the windows themselves! A few prepping steps to start: be sure that your windows are properly sealed. We don’t mean just closed, make sure that it is properly caulked and sealed all the way around. Next, make sure that the plants below any of the windows are properly watered first. This will help to not allow the soap to complete seep into the soil below.

Prep your power washer with the proper cleaning soap and follow the recommended instructions for distance and angles noted by the manufacturer. Rinse and either let air dry or wipe dry. If you are prepping your home for the spring market, be sure to check out our blog on Curb Appeal
